Daizy's Drag Show was a collaborative effort between a student-led drag show, assisted by the efforts of the Queer Resource Center. I offered to do promotional work for the show pro bono, as I was strongly vested in bringing more LGBT+ entertainment to the area.

Above: the large-format advertisement for the event, displayed in the courtyard of the Stevenson Union. Visibility was key, and I was experimenting with a design that focused on a non-traditional format (tall and skinny, a call back to Victorian designs) while also providing an intriguing but not wholly distracting background, rather than being displayed on plain black.

Above is my initial draft I submitted to the event organizer, based on discussions we had months prior to the event. While he liked the concept, he had a more particular design in mind and provided the sketch below, which incorporated some of the elements from the initial draft. One of the larger departures from his concept art to the final product was an influence of Victorian carnival/circus posters, which was suggested by the organizer and I felt that it meshed with the antiquated imagery better than a standalone typeface.
